If You Only Knew

Listen to my words, a request from my heart,
Let me finish before you forever depart.
There are some things I never told you,
Because you don't believe me, but they're true.
Look me in the eye, and tell me this is a lie,
Tear me apart, I will know it's goodbye.

I welcomed each sunrise with the warm thought
Of seeing you, the smiles you always brought.
Just knowing that you were there waiting for me,
Took away my worries, took away my breath when I see
How soft the light touches your face and your hair.
I thought that you would always be there.

But I took advantage of your faith and kindness,
I was soon confused, which added to my blindness,
Believing my mind when it told me think true,
I closed my heart from feeling what I felt and knew,
But my mind is not my heart, my heart is not my mind,
I was lost, my true thoughts were impossible to find.

If you only knew that you make me whole,
Your heart's melody created harmony in my soul.
Though you and me decided to break in two,
If you only knew that I belonged with you.

When I last held you near, you told me you'll miss
The wonderful hugs we gave, as I leaned close to kiss,
I knew that it wasn't time, this isn't the goodbye
To be given, we were letting each other fly.
Our noses touched, our eyes found one another,
Then it was over, I was broken all together.

Your hug goodbye squeezed the life out of me,
When you left, your eyes of sorrow let me be.
We are still friends, we couldn't break that bond,
Nothing can, of each other we are too fond.
I've taken much time to think of all that has become,
Wondering if you do the same, or if I was really dumb.

The radio keeps me company, though songs sung make me feel
All alone everytime I hear our song, enough for me to kneel
And ask the sky why— why had I done this to us,
To let you leave when I knew that you were a plus.
Remorse of this choice, remorse of this course I took,
Into the hurting moments I turn away, I dare not look.

If you only knew that you make me whole,
Your heart's melody created harmony in my soul.
Though you and me decided to break in two,
If you only knew that I belonged with you.

When I see you come, I smile because that's all I know to do
As you come near. Happiness finds a home in my heart as you.
When I see you leave, I watch you disappear from my sight,
Not until the last glimpse of you vanish do I take flight
Back to my lonesome haven, to yearn to see you once again,
Looking at pictures of you, wishing that we just began.

If you only knew,
My heart is true.
If you only knew,
We are one, not two.
If you only knew,
If only you knew.
