I can't cry
I met someone who became my friend,
It was something I would never expect, or plan,
She is so kind to me, sharing the sunshine in her smile,
Giving me hope and faith like no one else can.
She stands by me, she walks by me,
She is there when I am all alone,
She waits for me while others walk on,
She makes me whole, but she couldn't have known.
So much pain, I raise my head to the rain,
I close my eyes, they're so heavy and dry,
It hurts me so, she doesn't know,
I wish I could, but I can't cry.
She considers me only as a friend,
An honor as it is, but to be more,
To be hers, and her be mine,
My life would be like a classic lore.
I could never escape the glance
From her eyes, so rich, they hypnotize,
With pupils as round as a newborn kitten's,
Joined with her smile, she can mesmerize.
So much pain, I raise my head to the rain,
I close my eyes, they're so heavy and dry,
It hurts me so, she doesn't know,
I wish I could, but I can't cry.
She tells me thanks when I do her a favor,
She doesn't need to, I'd do it for free,
She would always wave and smile,
Letting me know that she sees me.
I made a wrong turn when I asked of her,
Something she didn't want, she didn't need,
She wonders why I want more, and not let it be,
In her garden of roses, I planted a weed.
So much pain, I raise my head to the rain,
I close my eyes, they're so heavy and dry,
It hurts me so, she doesn't know,
I wish I could, but I can't cry.
I thought I broke our bond by beckoning,
But she is still a friend I talk to often
Because I can't build a wall so tough,
That her sweet voice wouldn't soften.
She is a butterfly that just left my finger,
Taking with her the sunshine of the day.
Then I stand open to the cloud's tears,
I think about the past and about someday—
Someday, when the pain makes me
Walk away, I won't want to say goodbye,
So I'll tell her tomorrow, she will smile softly,
As she always does, then I will go— and cry.
